Luxury car brands are more or less defined. But if we go by your logic on “how many” of a particular luxury brand we see on the road, we could add Koenigsegg and Pagani to the list. Those aren’t offered on more commodity vehicles, so if you consider the Q7 a 'normal’ vehicle then yes, the Cayenne is just a fancy packaging to a degree. There are absolutely differences in mechanical components between commodity brands and luxury brands. What do ya’ll think are the highest quality luxury brands? Help learn me here. I’m not just talking „What’s the nicest car you can get for $100k-$300k” I’m talking on a $40k-$100k car or C/SUV probably. Which brand has the nicest entry level, vs mid to high tier? What are traits of each brand? Pros/cons of each? I’m thinking quality/materials, features, ride quality, engine, reliability/long … The most reliable luxury car is absolutely a Lexus. But if you only need 5-10 years out of the car, and your budget is that high, there’s far more available to you than just a Lexus. Unfortunately the only real luxury brands making electric cars have only just now entered the market in the past couple years and prices are well over $50k. Tesla is an option, but no matter what they claim, they aren’t a luxury car. They make decent cars that cram as much tech into them, thinking having a ton of tech makes them a luxury car. Overall, Porsches are more reliable than most other common luxury brands (Mercedes and bmw). I also mentioned Lexus, which is even more reliable, still luxury tires and premium gas… no luxury car is going to be as cheap to maintain as regular vehicle. Just remember there’s a difference between a car maker known for luxury making a luxury car, and a car maker known for luxury cars making a cheap car and using their name to sell a cheap car as a „luxury” model. Yeah you can’t get a car that does it all. Sporty and luxury inherently clash together. Luxury at least imo is like you said, supreme quietness, smooth ride, and effortless torque. While sporty is about connection the car and road, feedback from it, mechanical engagement, being able to tell what the car is doing, it encouraging to drive it hard … There are actually somewhat-accepted tranches/categories on the brand management/marketing/business side if things. It goes something like this: Premium Cars: The „upscale mall brands” of the car world, these are cars that mimic the superficial aspects of luxury autos and price themselves just high enough to distinguish themselves from economy cars, but not so high as to not be attainable to … Here’s an impression from the Netherlands: Xpeng seems off to a great start in the Netherlands because it offers a very good price-to-value car with the G9, bringing the high luxury SUV (Audi Q8 E-tron, BMW IX etc.) segment down to lease drivers in affordability.
